Robert Abitbol's suggestions
- Put the exact same two link bar lines on top and on the bottom of the page. At Preferences we could choose to have the 2 top link bars or not. Dan Muller has coded this patch according to my suggestion and it works A1.
- Ideally we could be able to add any of the 4 combinations (or the four bars) at Preferences: the top Recent Changes bar, the top edit bar, the bottom Recent Changes bar, the bottom edit bar. This would close forever the debate about where the edit bar should be located. It will be located anywhere the user chooses. End of the story!
- The edit summary. In 1.0 it's a headache! We always have to copy the summary and paste it when we keep changing our edits. It would be great to have the summary come back as the same author keeps editing a page or having the previous summary by any author wouldn't hurt either. (Robert, rather than saving a page repeatedly, try the Preview button. -- DanMuller) I tried it! You are 100% right. Excellent suggestion, Dan! Thanks!-- ra
- Also when we forget to put a summary, we shouldn't have to edit the page (i.e. to add a character) to be able to add a summary. (I've thought about a patch to require user name to be set before editing is allowed. I suppose a patch that required a summary for non-minor edits might be welcomed by some people, too.) Mm! Not necessarily! making writing a summary compulsory is not the best idea! The only advantage of the log-in is that it protects wikis from automatic spamming. That is about it. I was simply suggesting that we could add a summary to any version without having to modify the contents as it is the case now -- ra
- Put a log-in. This discourages spamming. All wiki sites with a login haven't been spammed. Also put in RachelStruthers? or SunirShah's anti-spamming code. (This can be done by the site owner using, usually, features of the Web server. It's not really necessary that it be part of wiki software -- but this topic is discussed in a few other places on this site, if I remember right. )
- Being able to go to the next line like in a word processor. I never understood the wiki convention that stops us from writing on the next line. What purpose does this serve?
That's it! Usemod 1.0 is so feature-rich, the features are so useful, so well designed, thought-of and implemented that there is nothing else to change in my opinion! It's a masterpiece!
Many thanks to CliffordAdams and to all the patchers for a really great collective work!
