You can get an awful lot of customisability using a single CascadingStyleSheet? and style classes for the various elements of a WikiPage? as provided for in the $StyleSheet Wiki ConfigVariables.

Adding the /CSSClasses changes to UseModWiki is a simple way of achieving significant control over the look and feel of a wiki without going to the extent of inventing a number of new wiki formatting commands and conventions. Indeed the essence of a Wiki is to be simple and straight forward, for example the proposal to deprecate ''italic'' and '''bold''' in favour of the html tags <i> and <b>.

A /WikiStyleSheet for the /CSSClasses changes is also provided to illustrate what can be achieved.
